Preserving heritage steam locomotives, rolling stock, trackwork and buildings, and operating an historic steam railway, is a costly business! All of the revenue received from visitors coming to enjoy a day out on the Railway goes towards day-to-day maintenance and operating costs.

Although The Isle of Wight Steam Railway is one of the Island's major visitor attractions, it is also much more besides. The Railway is a living museum and a registered educational charity, and owns a collection of historic steam locomotives and heritage rolling stock of national importance. Our aim is to continue saving, preserving and operating these and many other historic items, but to do so we continually need to seek additional funds.
